The
Gliding
Thrill
Gliding gives you
freedom, stunning views
and the sheer thrill of
controlling an aircraft.
This makes an absolutely
fantastic Gift Voucher
for any occasion at any
time of the year. This
is more than a thrill,
it's an adventure.
Although a half day
should be allowed with
this thrill, most
Megathrillers remain on
the field for the entire
day, until the last
glider has been safely
stored away. Warning: To
give a gliding gift
voucher can cause the
recipient to enter into
a relationship with the
sky that could easily
turn into a love affair,
an affair that could
last the rest of their
life.
MegaThrills offers
three activities
- One Aero-tow
Thrill
- Two
Winch-launch
Thrill
- The Gliding
Megathrill
The
one Aero-tow Thrill
Your
experience starts with a
briefing session, before
your qualified
instructor introduces
you to the
dual-controlled glider.
Once you are both seated
and secure, the glider
is towed into the air by
a powered aircraft to a
height of around
2,500ft. At the pilot's
discretion you may be
able to take the
controls and pilot the
craft. Total flights:
One.
The
two Winch-launch
Thrill
Your
experience starts with a
briefing session, before
your qualified
instructor introduces
you to the
dual-controlled glider.
Once you are both seated
and secure, the glider
is launched into the air
by a powerful winch to a
height of around
1,000ft. You will be
able to see far across
the rolling English
countryside on this
course to remember. At
the pilot's discretion
you may be able to take
the controls and pilot
the craft. Total
flights: Two.
The
Gliding Megathrill
This activity
incorporates both of the
above activities with
the exception of an
additional aero-tow
launch. Total flights:
Four.
Important
information
Minimum age
is 12-14 depending on
location. Maximum height
varies from 6'1'' to
6'4''. Maximum weight is
generally 16 stone. It
will not be possible for
you to fly if you suffer
from epilepsy, fainting
or certain physical or
mental disabilities.
Length
of activity
The length of
glider flights depends
entirely on the
prevailing thermal
currents (warmer air
that provides the lift).
As a guide your aerotow
flight should last for
between 12 and 20
minutes.
Weather
Conditions
Gliding is
weather dependent. It is
crucial that you call
the centre for a weather
check before setting
out. Contact details
will be provided upon
booking. Cancellations
due to the weather will
be re-booked for a later
date.
Availability
Most centres
operate all year round.
Please note that
weekends are
particularly busy and
should be booked at
least six weeks in
advance. Flights are
generally less frequent
during winter.
What
to wear
Dress
casually (no shorts or
tee-shirts) and wear
flat-soled shoes or
trainers. Sunglasses are
recommended.
Friends
& Family
Spectators
are welcome. Please
check with us at point
of booking as some
centres operate a
minimum age policy. A
camera or a pair of
binoculars will come in
handy.
Extra
information
Many gliding
centres are run as
non-profit making clubs
and operate on a first
come first served basis
- you may be asked to
sign onto a flight list
and wait your turn to
glide.
